Different frequencies are grouped into bands. Otherwise the wave doesn't go off the antenna like it should and it is reflected back to the CB which will heat up transistors beyond what they can handle causing them to burn out. Each frequency needs an antenna or wire if that's what you're using to be a certain length in order to receive or to transmit the magnetic wave to the best of it's ability so to speak. You can find this information on the net. What you need to do is read up some on antenna basics. really flexible, and an attractive radio too, with a nice large meter that lets you know what is going on.I've got a Pace SideTalk 1000B 23 channel just like the one pictured. you can make sure your microphones are adjusted right. Thankfully Galaxy has the adjustment points at their website, and the adjustments are EASY to do, the components to adjust are large, heavy duty trimmers, instead of fragile ferrite slugs. Also, the modulation was too low from the factory. SWR levels that would make many radios work fine makes the 949 upset. The antenna TYPE even can make it mad and not push full output power. My ONLY fault (why i gave it a 4) is that it is VERY finicky with antennas. I have a 2011 model and the SWR light problem where it would alert you falsely has been corrected. On SSB the GNF function can help yank the background noise so you can hear stations better. a very weak AM signal sounds almost as loud as a close in signal. Everything you need in one package!Īll in all a VERY good radio! Very good audio on transmit and receive.
